Retirement may not be as far away as you think

Even if you don't want to completely retire, maybe you can enrich your life by making some changes that allow you to spend more time on what really matters to you. We took a very different approach that allowed us to retire early and found out that it's not as hard to achieve as one might think. It just depends on how badly you want it.

To walk away from one's profession and spend your time doing something else that is not necessarily income-producing is only a matter of money. Or is it? Maybe it is also a matter of being creative and rethinking your definition of retirement.

When we decided to retire 10 years early, many people wanted to know how we did it and how we manage on a day to day basis. While it's nice that people are interested in us - the real question most are asking is "can we do it too?" I don't know the answer to that - but I can give you the steps we took to figure all that out, the tools we've used along the way, and how we managed to turn what could have been a boring retirement into a exciting and rewarding adventure. You are welcome to take this infomation and customize it for your own use. Do your research and, who knows, maybe you can defy the odds of all the so-called experts who say it takes millions to retire comfortably. If you feel trapped by the confines of a daily routine that is not fulfilling or you feel you are at a deadend because you can't find work, we understand. It is from such a position that our journey started.

If you're interested in the details of what we did, go right to the Retirement Plan which explains how we came to where we are today in step-by-step detail. I can't guarantee that this will work for you. But I feel fairly confident that going through the exercises we went through will get you closer than if you don't take the time to actually develop a written plan. As far as the technical aspects of how we get from one day to the next in a less than conventional lifestyle, read our Survival Kit.

Then, feel free to take any ideas you obtain from us to customize your own retirement plan. Even if you are not in a position to retire right away, having a plan in place will enable you to get there a lot sooner than without one.
